Ikanos has developed a software-based diagnostic and monitoring capability for its DSL products that not only gives DSL network operators the ability to check in on service they provide to their subscribers, but also makes information accessible to customers so that they have the option to address problems that arise.
Ikanos’s inSIGHT Broadband Experience Manager (BXM) is integrated with the company’s family of Fusiv Vx185 A/VDSL2 communications processors. The software resides primarily on-chip, though some code can be located the DSLAM. The software suite can identify the cause of common wiring faults and noise interference problems.
The software can determine the loop topology without the need to rely on loop records, which Ikanos noted can be unreliable and out of date. It can then detect common wiring issues, including bridge tap impairments, improperly connected microfilters, wire cuts, corroded wiring, and non-standard cables.
It also provides the ability to identify common sources of in-home noise interference and determine their impact on the customer experience.
inSIGHT BXM can be deployed as a standalone solution embedded in the company’s family of Fusiv Vx185 A/VDSL2 communications processors. It can also be integrated into carriers’ existing DSL management systems and workflows to create a holistic view of the customer experience, Ikanos said.
Ikanos’ inSIGHT BXM is currently available for lab trials. General availability is scheduled for early 2014.
