Harris QuiC-ProQuality Control - Harris to debut QuiC software at NAB Show

Harris Corp. is unveiling its next-generation family of filebased analysis solutions at industry shows worldwide.

The Harris QuiC software family minimizes the workload for video server operators in TV stations, network facilities and new media operations. Customers using QuiC software tools to analyze files ingested into video servers can achieve results faster through automated processes, the company said.

With quality control technology from content analysis specialist Digimetrics, the Harris QuiC software family includes three tools:

  • QuiC Pro for maximum flexibility, with scalability to enterpriselevel operations.
  • QuiC Express for file analysis in less complex workflows.
  • QuiC View for visual presentation of digital content with ties to HTML reports.

“The increasing emphasis on file-based workflows in today’s demanding broadcast, production and media operations creates a need for straightforward quality control processes,” said Harris Morris, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. “These new tools provide fast, effective and actionable results without false positives – allowing our customers to more effectively share, distribute and monetize media assets across many workflows and delivery platforms.”

QuiC Pro is ideal for use after content editing, during automated ingest, and for on-the-fly video transcoding and archival transfers QuiC View offers added value for content owners seeking a fast and efficient way to closely inspect file-based assets.

All QuiC software products support multiple media formats, a wide range of video and audio codecs, and many ancillary and metadata formats.

The QuiC software family debuted overseas in February. It will debut in North America at the 2012 NAB Show, set for April 14-18 in Las Vegas.

ZCorum, Incognito combo on DSL service management

ZCorum will use technology from Incognito Software to create a system that DSL network operators will be able to use to significantly increase their ability to manage services on their systems.

Incognito Software has developed a server, called the Auto Configuration Server (ACS), based on TR-069 service management specifications. ZCorum will integrate the ACS with its own TruVizion products to create a system that can collect performance metrics that can be used to enable advanced modem management capabilities.

ZCorum/Incognito DSL Service Management

ZCorum vice president of technology Scott Helms said telcos are in “desperate need” of a troubleshooting solution. The two companies believe their combined technologies will be a first-of-its-kind diagnostics solution for DSL providers.

ZCorum’s TruVizion software is already being used by cable providers to diagnose cable modem issues and alleviate problems on the cable plant.

“We evaluated products from several ACS vendors and felt Incognito had the most complete solution,” said Neal Grillot, vice president of business development for ZCorum.

Incognito’s ACS is part of its Broadband Command Center (BCC), a carriergrade provisioning solution for service providers. As part of the agreement, ZCorum will also have the ability to offer the full BCC solution to customers that are looking for a more robust provisioning system to bundle with ZCorum’s other services. &

VeEx mini OTDRVeEX intros mini OTDR

VeEX has introduced the FX300 mini OTDR series, a product optimized for today's optical fiber networks.

The unit offers meas u r e m e n t capabilities to troubleshoot and verify optical fibers used in FTTx, metro Ethernet and next-gen mobile backhaul applications. High-resolution data sampling (cm), small dead zones (less than 1 m) and high dynamic range (up to 37 dB) ensure precise and comprehensive assessment of FTTx, exchange/central office, intra-building and long-haul fiber deployments.

The mini OTDR has an auto mode for simplified operation and features a color LCD screen display.

Weighing only 900 g (less than 1.98 lbs), the FX300 series is one of the smallest and lightest mini OTDRs on the market. The chassis incorporates a fan and vent-free design that prevents dust and moisture ingress, making it perfectly suited for the challenging outside plant environment.
