SIERRA VILLAGE, Calif.Olson Technology Inc. has unveiled two 1550 nm external modulation transmitters that allow analog, QAM and digital cable TV signals to be transported over distances exceeding 200 km at bandwidths to 1 GHz.

The product family includes the OTOT-EM55X model and high-performance OTOT-EM55XL model, which allow cable operators to configure the system to meet any application requirement. The XL model is available with DWDM capability that can be tuned to ±1 ITU DWDM channel (±100 GHz) via front panel controls. The XL model offers bandwidth up to 1 GHz with stability over a wide ambient temperature range (0°C to +50°C). All models feature two usable outputs. The XL model includes adjustable SBS suppression from +13 dBm to +19 dBm. When used with Olson’s model OT-DCM family of dispersion compensation modules and the OTEA-CO series or the OTEA-CL series EDFAs, users can deploy a SuperTrunk cable TV transport system over distances exceeding 200 km, according to the company.

CRANBURY, N.J.Antronix has introduced integrated CWDM (coarse wavelength division multiplexing) functionality for its Antronix fiber node (AFN). The feature provides a 2:1 reduction in the number of fibers required for bi-directional communications, resulting in an overall savings in system cost, according to the company. The return optical transmitter employs an isolated DFB laser with a choice of different operating wavelengths.

The AFN transports video, data and telephony and provides conversion to and from RF. The device enables the service provider to bring fiber closer to the end user, and it is optimized for use in MDU, business, education, campus, government and residential environments.

The node is available in two versions: the fully featured H-series, providing a constant +38 dBmV RF output over a wide optical input; and the more economical L-series, offering a +28 dBmV RF output. The receive RF path includes provisions for Antronix’s E-option plug-ins for sloped RF output as well as user adjustable padding for optimal forward path setup. A DC optical power monitor eliminates the need for an optical power meter during installation, while status LEDs indicate whether the device is operating within expected ranges.

Aurora’s broadcast/narrowcast combiner

SANTA CLARA, Calif.Aurora Networks has expanded its family of Light-Plex integrated optical narrowcast demultiplexers and broadcast/narrowcast combiners with the new OP4528, which features built-in optical power level management capabilities that simplify the installation, set up and maintenance of Fiber Deep, DWDM architectures.

Aurora designed the OP4528 for installation in its VHub, which serves up to 20,000 homes in a standard node housing. As cable operators add new video or data carriers, they can use the OP4528 to realign power levels remotely via an SNMP interface to an element management system. Previously, operators needed to coordinate a headend tech and field tech to simultaneously set up the link. The OP4528 also enables cable operators to add optical wavelengths without interrupting existing narrowcast services.

The unit features four optical input ports for broadcast and narrowcast services. Nine output ports are available (one port for narrowcast services passthrough and eight combined broadcast/narrowcast ports). Each combined port delivers unique content to its related service area. Each OP4528 demultiplexes up to eight DWDM wavelengths and is available in five ITU wavelength groups. Up to three OP4528s can be installed in a single VHub to generate up to 24 unique service areas.
