Clearleap debuts ClearPlay Authentication platform
Clearleap now has available its ClearPlay Authentication service. The new managed service transparently authorizes and authenticates subscribers on major content provider portals, allowing service providers to enable TV Everywhere.
ClearPlay Authentication is now integrated with Adobe Pass, an authentication solution supporting approximately 90 percent of all U.S. pay-TV households, offering subscribers the flexibility of a single, persistent login as they travel from site to site across the Internet or other content portals. Clearleap’s system is also integrated to provide authentication services for HBO Go and Max Go.
“ClearPlay Authentication ensures subscribers can access the content they crave at any time, on their choice of device, anywhere,” said Clearleap CEO Braxton Jarratt. “Service providers will find it easy and quick to deploy, helping meet their customers’ demands while staying on top of programming and licensing issues.”
ClearPlay Authentication services are designed to simplify and reduce the costs normally associated with delivering a personal ‘any screen’ experience to a home television subscriber. Clearleap offers options to authenticate subscribers – under a content provider- or operator-branded experience – and can plug into any authentication system.
In addition, using a cloud-based infrastructure, Clearleap can provide IP delivery to any device. The vendor’s licensing model is based on activated subscribers and does not require revenue splits or a large upfront integration.
In addition, the National Cable Television Cooperative recently named Clearleap an Approved Provider for authentication services.
GLDS debuts TV Everywhere authorization
Great Lakes Data Systems has introduced an authorization service for TV Everywhere that it calls WinCAP.
WinCAP offers broadband service providers and their customers centralized multi-screen account and parental control management, with real-time authorization.
The system is integrated with GLDS' Web-based self-care portal CableAnytime, so subscribers are able to manage their TV Everywhere access using the same credentials they use to view and pay their bill, order PPV, view VoIP usage and upgrade services.
WinCAP is fully compliant with CableLabs' OLCA protocol and Adobe Pass, eliminating the requirement for operators to integrate with both protocols used by most content providers for TV Everywhere, i.e., HBO Go, Disney/ESPN, Turner/CNN, NBC and Fox. This gives operators a consolidated platform with a single point of contact for all content providers and simplifies their relationship with affiliates.
The centralized platform also gives content providers a single point of contact for authorizing content, minimizing the hassles of certification on the part of the content providers. GLDS integrates WinCAP with a content provider, giving that provider instant access to hundreds of operators throughout the U.S., the company explained. Using WinCAP, broadband service providers correlate package codes with content provider programming. When authorization requests come in, WinCAP knows what packages to look for on a customer's account before authorization.
The company noted that WinCAP is being used by several customers, including BELD Broadband, Cable Systems of Nevada, San Bruno Cable, Spencer Municipal Utilities and others to provide authorization for access to the 2012 NBC Summer Olympics.
GreenPeak debuts ZigBee RF4CE chip
GreenPeak Technologies has announced the general availability of its GP510 communication controller chip, supporting all communication between ZigBee RF4CE-enabled devices and the set-top box or gateway. The GP510 is GreenPeak’s answer to the increasing market demand for making the set-top box the ZigBee RF4CE hub for the home.
Facilitating the transition from traditional IR for the set-top box to ZigBee RF4CE communication technology, the GP510 system-on-a-chip was developed as a low-cost RF4CE solution designed for the next-generation ZigBee set-top boxes.
Wi-Fi interference robustness, in combination with patented antenna diversity technology, results in approximately twice the reliable range (compared with similar systems with only one antenna) in a crowded wireless 2.4 GHz environment, enabling full home coverage, according to GreenPeak. The integrated RF filtering simplifies the RF design complexity, which enables single-layer applications using simple PCB antennas – requiring no shielding and a minimum number of external components.
The MAC and network layer are integrated for data communication management, and the embedded ZigBee RF4CE network layer enables integration. The chip is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.
GP510 development kits are available to assist OEMs with evaluating the GP510, to facilitate their integration and to allow a simple implementation of ZigBee RF4CE technology in the set-top box for a quick time to market.
Tektronix improves Medius server for QoE
Tektronix has upgraded its Medius centralized management server to give video service providers a more comprehensive and clear view of the condition of the programs flowing throughout large, geographically distributed networks.
The new program alert dashboard provides new views of Sentry reports, delivering more program status and alert status information per screen and allowing users to identify issues more quickly and take action sooner. The new views include a geographical view that displays all of the monitoring points on a map and highlights problem areas or regions, a grid view that shows a program’s alert status across all monitoring points for fast identification and repair of the source locations having video and audio problems, and a tile view that provides a quick snapshot of the alert status of all programs or services and highlights which programs need the most attention.
“These new features of Medius are ideal for personnel in network operating centers (NOCs) who manage multiple headends and hubs within a large network, as it gives them a comprehensive, straightforward and easy-to-understand view of the status of the programming flowing through their networks,” said Eben Jenkins, general manager of the video product line at Tektronix. “These capabilities are also very timely, as video service providers are increasingly consolidating their networks and headends to increase efficiency and deliver new services.”
Medius – a member of Tektronix’s Sentry line of video quality monitoring solutions – collects, organizes and displays critical information delivered from multiple Sentry units within the Sentry product family, which are deployed at headends and other points in a network to monitor programs for video, audio and other content in the transport stream that can impact viewers’ quality of experience (QoE).
PPC creates app for product info
PPC is providing a new mobile app that provides its customers with 24/7 access to step-by-step installation instructions and videos, as well as detailed product specifications.
"It's a slightly different approach than many other companies take to mobile tools, but we think that when a technician has a problem in the field, they need answers, not marketing materials," said Hans Fuller, director of marketing and strategy at PPC. "This application puts critical information at the fingertips of our customers. Nearly all of the technicians that work with our product carry smartphones, so we're putting the tools that can make an installation go more smoothly right in their hands."
PPC's app instantly recognizes the type of mobile device that is being used and optimizes the interface for that device, granting users real-time access to product information. Users can find what they need from any smartphone or tablet device while in the field, enabling them to troubleshoot and answer questions about how to install a PPC product properly.
