FIBER - Clearfield Simplifies Fiber Distribution
Clearfield  has announced a turnkey package for small-count fiber deployment. Teaming with Channell Commercial Corp., Clearfield has introduced the integration of the FieldSmart Fiber Delivery Point (FDP) “PON in a PED” Insert with a custom variation of the Channell MAH1212 pedestal and underground vault.
The new solution provides fiber connectivity, cable drop splicing, sheath-to-sheath splicing and optical component housings within the Clearview Cassette and integrates it with the slack storage functionality of the Channell pedestal/vault product offerings, the companies said.
“Many of our clients expressed a desire to provide the same level of slack storage access for small-count installations as we provided with our fiber distribution hubs but couldn’t find a commercially available pedestal/vault solution to address their requirement,” said Johnny Hill, COO of Clearfield. “In working with Channell Corp., we were able to make some simple alterations to their product to make it fiber-ready. In its simplest configuration, service providers can use this solution today while future-proofing their network for long-term fiber migration strategies.”
Meanwhile, Clearfield has also introduced its latest innovation in fiber management, the Clearview xPak Cassette. Engineered to land small-port-count fiber terminations and optical components as conveniently and inexpensively as possible, the xPak simplifies fiber management to the level of a consumable good, according to the company.
The Clearview xPak unfolds to a flat, single-piece element in which all required components for fiber protection are integrated.
Enablence Upgrades ONT Portfolio
Enablence Technologies  has made several additions to its portfolio of advanced optical network terminals (ONTs) to ensure network operators and service providers of all kinds have a selection of features, functionality and price points to serve their diverse needs.
With these additions, Enablence’s ONT portfolio accommodates the following applications: business and commercial, office buildings, and single-family and multi-dwelling residential units – over both GPON and active point-to-point networks.
Network operators and service providers benefit from a host of features that serve their operational needs, with ease of use, quick deployment, and remote diagnostics and administration that reduce operating costs, the company said. A variety of enclosure options for indoor and outdoor deployments, as well as multiple port configurations and support for open access, allow customers to choose the ONT best suited for their individual needs.
All of these ONTs are optimized for use with Enablence’s Trident7 Universal Access platform, an IP/Ethernet-based system geared toward large municipal and telco fiber deployments and overbuilds of existing infrastructure.

NoiseWave Launches New Generator
NoiseWave  has introduced the new NWCATV-CNG Eb/No and C/N generator for fast, accurate bit-error-rate (BER) testing.
The NWCATV-CNG automatically sets precise, stable Eb/No, C/N, C/No and C/I ratios. The unit covers a frequency range of 50 MHz to 890 MHz and is ideal for testing cable modems, set-top boxes and satellite receivers. It’s also suitable for both production and laboratory testing.
The NWCATV-CNG features a built-in, true RMS power meter and 0.1 dB resolution for signal, noise and ratios. Superior noise and signal flatness versus frequency contribute to the unit’s overall accuracy, NoiseWave said.
It comes standard with 50-ohm N connectors, a three-year warranty, a keypad, and remote operation via Ethernet and IEEE-488.
Marvell intros Avanta Family of Broadband Solutions
Marvell  recently announced the first members of the Avanta family of broadband optical access solutions for GPON, EPON and 10 Gigabit EPON. This new family of broadband solutions offers up to 20 times the bandwidth of traditional copper-based networking solutions, the company said.
The first members of the Avanta family are single chip for single-family unit (SFU) devices with integration, performance and a radically reduced energy footprint, providing optimal solutions for mass deployment of next-generation, video-centric and interactive Internet.
Marvell said that optical access provides the technology leap to enable high-broadband throughput, ranging from 100 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps per home, overcoming the current limitations with copper-wired infrastructure. This expanded throughput is necessary for streaming 3-D HD content in real time, as well as user-to-user and user-to-cloud interactive applications.
“Consumers worldwide have a growing appetite for media-rich entertainment such as IPTV, interactive video and multiplayer games. For these applications, PON offers much more bandwidth than DSL copper technology,” said Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at The Linley Group. “Marvell’s new EPON and GPON products can play an important role in the replacement of DSL in North America and enable households in countries such as India and China to take advantage of huge amounts of bandwidth with their first broadband installation.”
The single chip for SFU applications address both standards of the passive optical networks: the ITU GPON standard mostly adopted in the United States and the European Union, as well as the IEEE EPON standard mostly adopted in major Asia-Pacific countries, including China.
The Avanta 88F6510 features a high level of integration, including a gigahertz-class CPU, dual-mode PON MAC, line-rate IPv6-capable programmable packet processor, VoIP, Ethernet switch and Ethernet PHYs. The Avanta series also uses low power and reduces the bill of material for PON SFU devices to enable wide deployment.
Marvell said that its Avanta series is the first to introduce multiple low-power techniques in the PON space – ranging from dynamic CPU speed throttling, sleep mode, low-power DDR3-SDRAM and IEEE Energy-Efficient-Ethernet (EEE) compliance.
The Marvell platform supports tens of 3-D HD interactive video streams and a line-rate packet processor with hardware multicasting. It is also the first to support the IEEE Audio/Video Bridging (AVB) specifications, Marvell said. The integrated programmable packet processor not only supports IPv6, but also future-proofs the platform for emerging protocols like DOCSIS over PON.
