Mediacom adds 27 Spanish channels to digital tier

Mediacom Communications has added 27 new Spanish-language channels in its Quad Cities service area along the Iowa/Illinois boundary.

The 27 channels were from Canales Latinos and replaced Mediacom’s previous set of Spanish-language channels. The new channel set features Spanish versions of popular cable networks that televise sports, news and informational programming, including Discovery en Espanol, ESPN Deportes, Fox Deportes, History Channel en Espanol and others.

Canales Latinos is one of several Mediacom digital tiers, each with at least 20 specialty channels and available as optional additions to digital cable subscriptions, which typically cost $7.95 for the first digital package.

In addition to making Canales Latinos available in the Quad Cities, Clinton and surrounding areas, Mediacom recently added the digital channel package to its lineups in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Des Moines, Iowa, and areas surrounding those cities.

In 2011, Mediacom, the nation’s eighth-largest cable operator, embarked on its first major all-digital project in Cedar Rapids and other areas of its Iowa footprint [1] before expanding the project to other systems.
