Dish has entered into a strategic partnership with C Spire Wireless in which customers who subscribe to both services can access Dish’s live TV programming on their smartphones and tablets using the Dish Remote Access app or Dish’s online portal .
C Spire operates in a four-state area in the Southeast, covering more than 5 million consumers. The carrier will promote the satellite broadcaster’s TV Everywhere products and DVR technologies in its retail locations.
To watch live TV on wireless mobile devices, subscribers need a Sling Adapter and a broadband-connected, compatible Dish HD DVR receiver.
To that end, C Spire is also showcasing Dish’s recently introduced Hopper whole-home HD DVR at most of its retail locations. The Hopper system lets Dish customers record, pause and play back different shows in up to four rooms in the house.
"With Dish, wireless customers can tune in to their home TV and watch their favorite sports team or television program on their wireless mobile device," said Joseph Clayton, CEO of Dish. "This convenience is made possible by the convergence of Dish technology and C Spire's mobile broadband services. Dish is the only pay-TV provider that enables wireless customers to watch live TV anywhere, inside and outside the home."
Being “restricted” to satellite distribution is merely encouragement for Dish to pursue novel strategies for providing advanced services.
