Videotron adopts caller ID on TV

Videotron is using Integra5’s i5 Converged Services Platform (i5 CSP) to offer caller ID on TV.

Videotron is launching the new service – called illico Caller ID – this month across its entire footprint; the company has 2.5 million subscribers in Quebec.

The service can be purchased on its own for $2 per month, which includes the first three months for free, and is also available as part of the optional telephony feature package that includes caller ID (telephone), voicemail, voice messages by e-mail (for Videotron broadband customers), call forwarding, call waiting and 3-way calling for $10 per month.

“More than fifty percent of our customers subscribe to two or more of our services, so offering new ways to blend those services into new experiences across devices highlights our focus on convergence and leadership in service innovation,” said Michel Allard, Videotron’s vice president of technology development.

Earlier this week, Integra5 introduced a new feature that allows viewers to chat while watching the same TV program – dubbed MediaFriends TV Chat (story here [1]). Integra5 will be demonstrating it at next week’s CableLabs Summer Conference in Keystone, Colo. MediaFriends is the latest addition to Integra5’s i5 CSP.

While Integra5 is working on spreading MediaFriends to PCs and TVs, the first function allows viewers to watch a show together while sharing text messages in real time.
