At the Cable-Tec Expo in Philadelphia this week, SMC Networks will unveil the latest additions to its cable modem and gateway family.
The SMCD3CM DOCSIS 3.0-based cable modem for residential high-speed broadband access, the SMCD3BCM business-class DOCSIS 3.0-based cable modem for SOHO/SMB high-speed broadband access and the SMC8014-TES DOCSIS 2.0 L2TPv3 cable modem gateway.
“SCTE Cable-Tec is a perfect venue for SMC to demonstrate and connect with MSO partners looking for new and innovative ways to differentiate their data service offering against their competitors both in the residential and SMB/enterprise segment,” said Todd Babic, SMC Networks’ VP of sales for broadband business development for North America. “Our modems and gateways enable cable providers to deliver services that are reliable and feature-rich as they are affordable and scaleable.”
The SMCD3CM DOCSIS 3.0-based cable modem provides high-speed data distribution via a Gigabit Ethernet port to optimize speed and bandwidth for both residential and SOHO users, the company said. The modem utilizes DOCSIS 3.0 with asymmetrical connections for performance, operating on as many as four downstream and four upstream bonded channels. It also supports IPv4 and IPv6 and is backward compatible with DOCSIS 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0.
The SMCD3BCM DOCSIS 3.0-based cable modem builds on the features of the SMCD3CM, adding more features that address the SOHO/SMB customer profile, including support for ripv1/2 for static IPs, the company said. Other features of the modem include static IP, firewall, NAT, VPN termination and a full-featured CLI.
The SMC8014-TES is a standards-based solution, allowing MSOs to support multi-vendor L2TPv3-compliant enterprise concentrators. The gateway supports multiple VPN scenarios, including branch offices, teleworkers, cellular backhauls, SOHO/peer-to-peer mesh networks, and enterprises where the SMC8014-TES is installed at multiple sites and connect to a hosted VPN concentrator.
