Comcast Corp.  has launched a new Internet division and has appointed Amy Banse to run it.
Banse will head up Comcast Interactive Media (CIM) as president. The new unit will operate the company's Internet businesses, including its Comcast.net portal, and develop new content relationships and services that leverage Comcast's broadband pipe.
Banse, formerly the EVP of content development at Comcast, reports to Comcast Corp. COO Steve Burke. Samuel Schwartz has also joined CIM as EVP of strategy and development.
"We're excited about the opportunities the Internet offers," said Banse, who is credited for overseeing the development and launch of G4, TV one and PBS Kids Sprout. "Consumers are spending more time online and Comcast is well-positioned to take advantage of those trends. Sam has a deep grasp of emerging technologies and I look forward to working with him to create new online services."
