C-COR Inc. will use next week's SCTE Cable-Tec Expo to bow a 10-port Gigabit Ethernet service interface module aimed at helping cable operators deploy business services.
For use in C-COR's Multiservice Packet Switch (MSP) system, the XGSIM offers an economical means to deploy business data services with dynamic, on-demand bandwidths up to 1 Gigabit per second, the company said.
The MSP system can support carrier-grade Ethernet services ranging from 10 Gbps Ethernet to OC-192 SONET optical packet rings, and with its quality of service traffic management, it can minimize packet delay and jitter.
In addition to providing 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, the XGSIM module can oversee switching, VLAN tagging, rate shaping, and packet classification necessary to maintain service level agreements with individual business customers. It also supports variable information rate and guaranteed information rate delivery, so traffic can be separated by individual customer to prevent denial of service attacks and peer-to-peer bandwidth abuse.
The module is expected to be available for field trials by the fourth quarter.
