Liberty Communications is using technology from Coaxsys Inc. to pipe IPTV services over legacy coax wires in customer homes.
Liberty, a telco based in Iowa, is deploying the IPTV service in West Liberty and West Branch, Iowa via the Coaxsys IPTV 7000 TVnet platform.
Once the Coaxsys adapter is connected to the video or broadband source, all of the coax jacks in the home are lit up to receive services. With the systems, customers can share data connections and stream video signals. The platform can support speeds up to 104 Mbps at distances up to 250 feet, the company said.
"Our TVnet product leverages existing coaxial cable in the home to economically stream video and enhanced Internet applications throughout the home without the need for truck rolls or in-home modifications," said Coaxsys CEO and President Michael D'Addio, in a statement.
