Cablevision Systems Corp. has agreed to test run a proprietary platform from Rentrak Corp. that will enable the operator to measure and report video-on-demand usage data.
The Rentrak OnDemand Essentials platform provides a customizable analysis of anonymous on-demand viewing information that Cablevision and its programmers can, in turn, use to better understand viewer VOD preferences. Under the agreement, Cablevision will deploy the platform on a trial basis for one year.
"We believe that Cablevision's robust offering of more than 1,200 on-demand titles is one of the key reasons we have been able to achieve an industry-leading digital video penetration of more than 50 percent," said Cablevision SVP of product management Kristin Dolan, in a release. "With Rentrak's measuring system in place, we will be able to demonstrate usage that we hope will encourage programmers to further embrace this platform."
Comcast Cable and Insight Communications are among the MSOs to announce deployments of Rentrak's OnDemand Essentials Service. Music Choice is the first programmer to subscribe to the service.
