Comcast Corp. 's Amy Banse is wearing two hats these days after the Philadelphia-based media giant promoted her to senior vice president of content development for the primary corporation, and executive vice president of content development for the company's cable division.
In this dual role, Banse will report to both Comcast Corp. CEO and Chairman Brian Roberts and to Comcast Corp. COO and Comcast Cable President Steve Burke. With the promotion, Banse becomes the first woman to hold the position of corporate SVP at Comcast. She joined Comcast in 1991 as an in-house attorney responsible for programming acquisition.
Considering Comcast's plans for VOD, she will have plenty more programming to acquire or develop. On Monday at an investor conference in Phoenix, Roberts said Comcast expects to expand its VOD library from 3,000 choices today to 5,000 or 6,000 by mid-year, and 10,000 by year-end.
"For years, Amy has been the driving force behind growing our content business. Steve and I look forward to working with Amy as we expand our cable channels, VOD offerings and broadband content in the future," Roberts said, in a statement.
