EarthLink Inc. and Boingo Wireless are expanding their partnership agreement to encompass a new, integrated Wi-Fi feature in future versions of EarthLink's TotalAccess Internet software.
The two companies first partnered in 2002, resulting in standalone EarthLink Wi-Fi service not connected to Total Access. Under the new deal, EarthLink has licensed the Boingo software development kit (SDK) for Windows and Mac OS X, and will use it to build Wi-Fi access and connection management capabilities into TotalAccess, allowing subscribers more convenient Wi-Fi use.
"Our customers are increasingly mobile, and to meet their needs we plan to be very aggressive in offering wireless services, and Wi-Fi is an important element of this," said Brent Cobb, vice president of EarthLink Wireless, in a release.
The multiyear agreement between the two companies also calls for EarthLink to renew its commitment to the Boingo Roaming System for the Wi-Fi service.
