Following up on a deal struck last year with EchoStar Communications, SBC Communications Inc. will begin marketing digital satellite TV service in its 13-state region.
Staking claims on the "strategic quadruple play," SBC will bundle EchoStar with the telco's wireless voice, broadband and traditional local/long distance offerings. The SBC/DISH combo will start as low as $29.99 per month for EchoStar's "America's Top 60" package. The "Everything Pak" sells for $82.99 per month, complete with 180 channels and 31 premium networks from HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and Starz! SBC said it will offer additional discounts to customers who bundle in more services.
"We now have perhaps the premier bundle in the industry," said SBC Chairman and CEO Edward Whitacre, in a release.
But SBC plans to do more than just repackage EchoStar. The companies said they will develop set-tops that meld satellite TV, digital video recording, home networking and telecom service capabilities.
