Just in time for March Madness, Comcast Corp. launched high-definition television services this week in Atlanta, Ga., a market the MSO obtained via its acquisition of AT&T Broadband.
Comcast said HD is now available to 2 million subs in the market. The MSO's HDTV package there includes WGCL-TV (CBS), WXIA-TV (NBC), WAGA-TV (Fox) and east and west feeds from premium programmers HBO and Showtime
As a former AT&T Broadband property, Comcast's digital system in Atlanta is based on the Motorola Broadband platform. Customers who take the package will receive a Comcast-provided converter and pay a monthly fee of $5.
The launch also maintains Comcast's aggressive moves with HDTV services. The MSO also offers HD in major cities such as Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, Indianapolis, Nashville, Philadelphia, Seattle and the Washington, D.C. area.
