MAPCOM launches cable-mapping unit

MAPCOM Systems says it's tackling the cable industry with the launch of its M4 Cable unit and M4 software. The mapping software maker says the new unit will focus on a complete, Windows-based, GPS-centric system and street map overlay for an OSS platform.

The company produces automated mapping applications based on geographic positioning systems and geographical information systems. It plans to apply the technology to cable plant and headends, with a release of a Web-enabled headend mapping and design tool due out in September.

The company says the division will provide an "actual picture" of various markets to the household level and can pinpoint customer or prospect locations. M4 also intends to help its clients determine whether they can deliver a service to customers and whether delivery entails cell towers, fiber, copper or cable, the company says.

MAPCOM says it also provides such services as custom mapping, records conversion, work order management and automated billing.
