ReplayTV Inc. will be a primary provider of core DVR software in Motorola Inc.'s new personal TV platform. Under a long-term licensing agreement, ReplayTV's DVR technology will be integrated into Motorola's digital cable set-tops, slated for a late 2001 release.
The agreement allows the two to take a combined set-top terminal and personal TV product to market, says Motorola DigiCable's VP and General Manager Carl McGrath.
Motorola's new set-tops integrate DVR functionality, allowing users to record automatically onto a local hard disk, Motorola reports. The set-tops include open interfaces, letting cable operators use existing providers of program guides, VOD systems and middleware applications.
Last month, SONICblue signed an agreement to acquire ReplayTV Inc.
