PVRs just got more interesting. OK, it's interesting enough that personal video recorders are smart enough to remember what you like and record it for you, without you telling it to, but now the brains of the PVR has more programming to pick over. DirecTV programming is now integrated into TiVo's personal video recorder
For those who take the plunge into "your PVR knows best" recording, TiVo will comb through 225 DirecTV digital-quality channels looking for the stuff you like to see. TiVo can then store up to 35 hours of this content on its hard disk. No videotape required.
Philips and Sony are building the boxes and, just like AOLTV, they are available at major consumer electronic stores. Better hurry though; TiVo thinks this will be hotter than the Play Station 2.
"We think the combination of DirecTV's programming with TiVo's service will be the must-have entertainment product this holiday season," said Mike Ramsay, TiVo's president and CEO.
