Music meld

Entertainment meld. That's the goal of a new alliance between Excite@Home and MTVi, the dot com arm of MTV. The two companies plan to blend entertainment content and high-speed Web use access in a new site offering music video clips, news and downloads.

The music-oriented content is tailored for those with broadband connections, but the less fortunate users of dial-up can still access the fun stuff. Music fans can research old and new artists, find the latest music news and reviews, and of, course, see MTV's top 20 videos (a good thing, seeing how Music Television rarely plays videos anymore).

The two companies are banking on a Forrester Research finding which projects that 19 million surfers will use the Internet for downloading music by 2002.

I think Napster already knew that.
