Britons will soon enjoy the convenience of recording and pausing live digital broadcasts without missing a thing when they run for the chips.
British Sky Broadcasting will introduce the Personal Television Recorder - combining an enhanced digital satellite set-top decoder with a 40-gigabyte hard-disk recording facility - for sale to the general public in 1Q 2001.
The recorder will let viewers pause live broadcasts, record current and future programs for later viewing, and automatically record every episode of a series, all with VCR-like control. And no more deciding between "Friends" and "ER." The Personal Television Recorder includes two digital satellite tuners, so viewers can watch Ross and Rachel spar, knowing they can later catch Dr. Greene saving yet another stroke victim.
