Mississippi telecom C Spire this week announced that more than 40 additional markets in the state now have access to the company's fiber-based fixed wireless broadband.

The carrier, the nation's sixth-largest, originally rolled out its fixed wireless service in eight Mississippi markets in September. As of Monday, more than 57,000 households in 22 additional markets gained access to the service, along with more than 35,000 businesses in the state.

“As a Mississippi-based technology company, we are uniquely positioned to ensure that our state is not left behind in the technology revolution and the new digital economy,” C Spire President Stephen Bye said in a statement. “The mass expansion of broadband Internet is a key part of the C Spire Tech Movement.”

C Spire wireless customers can order fixed-wireless broadband internet, with connection speeds of up to 100 Mbps, for $50 per month. Other households can order the service for $60 per monthly, while businesses will owe $70 per month.

The company eventually plans to offer fixed broadband to more than 250,000 residential customers and small businesses in Mississippi.

“We are ushering in a new era of speed and availability for broadband internet access,” Bye said.
