Qualcomm Technologies introduced its end-to-end GigaDSL products that are said to enable broadband operators to transition deployments from VDSL to Gigabit access technologies. The company reports they are designed to meet the requirements for the migration for existing VDSL by operators, especially in Korea and Japan. The new QCO5700 for multiple dwelling units and the QCM5720 for customer premises equipment can reportedly provide up to 1 Gbps broadband over existing telephone lines – while maintaining interoperability with carriers’ existing modems and seamless coexistence with deployed infrastructure.

South Korean satellite pay TV provider KT SkyLife chose Ericsson to expand its Ultra HD TV service, using Ericsson's HEVC encoders. The deal marks KT SkyLife's fifth UHD channel launch to date.

Ericsson encoders support video compression and pre-processing improvements in MPEG-2, AVC and HEVC, with advanced compression capabilities for video quality optimization, according to the vendor. The solution will reportedly ensure better video quality for KT SkyLife's customers, with expected picture quality improvements of up to 15-20 percent, while utilizing less of KT Skylife's bandwidth.

Incognito Software Systems has opened an office in Manila, Philippines. The company has a long-term business interest in the region, and its President and CEO Stephane Bourque joined a contingent of British Columbia business leaders for a trade mission to support business relationships with new markets in the Philippines for several events last week.

An increased focus on the Asia Pacific region has been a priority for the company, Incognito reports. In March, it announced that Guangdong Provincial CATV and Chongqing CATV, two Chinese cable and high-speed data providers with a combined 21 million subscribers, selected the Incognito Auto Configuration Server.

Slic Network Solutions has completed its fiber-optic network that brings its high-speed Internet, voice and video offerings to Long Lake, N.Y. The project is supported by a NYS Regional Council Award and delivers service to over 750 homes and businesses in and around the hamlet. Long Lake becomes the Adirondacks' first-gigabit fiber community with the completion of the network, according to the company.

Mediacom Business announced it will once again serve as the official provider of data, voice and video services during the Principal Charity Classic presented by Wells Fargo, the annual PGA TOUR Champions event held at Wakonda Club in Des Moines.
