Netflix CEO Reed Hastings sees the IP transition turning linear TV on its head in a relatively short amount of time.

Speaking with Mad Money’s Jim Cramer, Hastings predicted that all TV will be on the Internet within the next 10 to 20 years.

Still, as the traditional TV model continues to lose subscribers across many of the MVPDs in the market, Hastings downplayed the fears around cord cutting as the primary threat to linear TV.

“There are a few people who’ve cut the cord but it’s very, very small still,” said Hastings, adding that cord cutting is definitely more of a long-term concern.

After Disney reported subscriber losses in August, the ability of live sports to provide video subscriber stability was called into question.

As Hastings sees it, sports networks are going to begin transitioning to an on-demand format and that more and more linear networks will do the same, following in the footsteps of HBO.
