Time Warner Cable recently updated its TWC News app to include support for tablets as well as mobile devices.

The latest update allows authenticated Time Warner Cable subscribers to tap into live and on demand programming from the cable operator’s news channels in New York City, the state of New York, North Carolina and Texas.

After logging in with their TWC ID, customers can watch local news, politics, weather, sports, lifestyle, travel, technology segments and other programs airing on the TWC News networks.

Users that aren’t Time Warner Cable subscribers can access new stories by Time Warner Cable’s local news outlets without the video.

Nikia Redhead, public relations manager at TWC's NY1 News/NY1 Noticias, wrote in a Time Warner Cable blog post that the TWC News app also lets users create news-related video playlists, as well as access local weather and weather-related maps. The app also lets users send in news tips via the app’s “report news” button.

The free app works with iOS devices that have iOS 6.1 or later. Its compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices and is optimized for the iPhone 5. Customers can download the app from iTunes.

The app can be downloaded to some Android devices from the Google Play store.
