Telefónica made cloud DVR available to subscribers of its Movistar TV service in February. Alcatel-Lucent just announced that Telefónica is using its Cloud DVR system to enable that service.
Personal online recording provides each Movistar customer with simultaneous channel recording, with an aggregate limit of about 350 hours’ worth of content storage.
Alcatel-Lucent also just said that Telefónica is using its 5910 Video Services Appliance for a service that gives Telefónica customers the option to select from up to six different streams of live action in sporting events. Viewers select the stream from an on-screen mosaic of options. That feature was first rolled out in March.
Alcatel-Lucent said it is also supporting Telefónica in its fiber-to-the-home deployments as part of the Movistar Fusión service.
Telefónica was among the first service providers in Spain to launch a pay TV offering in 2001 and now reaches nearly one million subscribers.
