Birch Communications has completed its $323 million cash acquisition of Cbeyond.
Birch counts this as its 21st acquisition since 2006, all part of its strategy of consolidating regional cloud and managed services businesses into a national network. The company said it now has approximately 200,000 business customers located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada and Puerto Rico. Its IP-based network now has approximately 31,000 fiber route miles, and covers 22 states and Washington, D.C.
Cbeyond specializes in VoIP, data, mobile, and cloud services for small and medium businesses (SMB), relying almost exclusively on networking equipment from Cisco. Birch announced it would acquire Cbeyond in April.
Birch said it will maintain its headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. Cbeyond's Atlanta headquarters and operations facility will become Birch's newest operations center supporting a range of functions including: customer care, engineering, operations, sales, finance and marketing. Birch maintains two other operations centers in Macon, GA and Emporia, KS.
Birch said it now service the range of SMB to enterprise.
