C Spire said it is in the process of buying MegaGate Broadband from Cellular One. C Spire is not revealing the financial details.
C Spire has been shoring up its business services operations, and the MegaGate acquisition will give it a stronger presence in the business services market. MegaGate provides IP voice, data, and business telecommunications solutions to small and medium sized businesses throughout much of Mississippi. The company started in 1998 as a division of Cellular One.
This will be C Spire’s second acquisition this year. In February, the company acquired Callis Communications, a provider of cloud-based communications services for businesses.
C Spire also plans to open a new $23 million Tier III+ data center in Starkville, Miss., in November, that is designed to support enterprise cloud services and solutions for businesses across the Southeast.
Last September, C Spire launched the nation’s largest statewide initiative to bring 1 Gbps fiber-based Internet access to homes in nine Mississippi cities. “Like C Spire, MegaGate has a highly experienced team with a long tradition of serving its customers with excellence, making this a winning combination,” said Kevin Hankins, COO for C Spire. “Both companies share the imperative of putting customers first, providing reliable service and great overall value.”
C Spire expects final regulatory approval of the merger within the next 60 days.
