Dish Network has added some bells and whistles to its Dish Explorer app that works with its whole-home Hopper DVR platform.
Dish subscribers with the app can now use their iPads for volume and power control on their TVs, and now there are also personalized program recommendations based on viewing habits.
“Over the past year, Dish Explorer has become the highest-rated second-screen app for iPad, in part because we continue to make updates our customers want,” said Jimshade Chaudhari, director of product management at Dish. “While Dish Explorer has had native control of Hopper capabilities such as search, record and channel navigation, consumers also want to use the app to turn their TVs on and off and control the volume, now they can.”
Dish also added a “Picked for Me” section that features personalized program recommendations based on viewing habits. Dish declined to say which search and recommendation vendor it uses.
Dish first introduced the app at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. In its first year, Dish said active users of the app had grown by 225 percent.
The latest version of the free app is available for downloading at iTunes.
