Thanks to a recent agreement, Comcast subscribers can now buy movies and TV shows from Warner Bros. for viewing anywhere and on any device.
The Warner Bros. content is the latest addition to Comcast’s Xfinity On Demand electronic video store, which made its debut in November. By selling video content directly to its subscribers via their set-top boxes or browsers, Comcast is competing against the likes of Apple’s iTunes and Amazon.com Inc.'s Instant Video Store services.
The agreement gives Comcast the ability to sell Warner Bros. movies several weeks ahead of DVD and Blu-ray release dates.
"We are thrilled to add the Warner Bros.’ hit films and television shows to our rapidly expanding offering of titles available for purchase," said Michael Schreiber, senior Vice President of Content Acquisition at Comcast. "Our Xfinity On Demand platform provides customers with the most current content, where and when they want it, and the incredible success of our digital store and cloud-based digital locker will only continue to grow as we expand the platform."
Warner Bros. movies that are now available for purchase include: “Gravity,” “42,” “Argo,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “Pacific Rim,” “The Conjuring,” “The Lord of the Rings trilogy,” and “The Great Gatsby.”

The service allows subscribers to store the purchased video content in a cloud. Purchased titles are added to the customer’s on demand menu, which is accessible on the TV, online at XfinityTV.com or via the Xfinity On Demand Purchases App.
In November, Comcast laid claim to being the first pay-television provider in the country to sell digital HD content for downloading and streaming. In addition to Warner Bros, video content is also available from Fox, Lionsgate and NBCUniversal.
