Telenor Hungary has just launched a video service using an end-to-end system provided by UUX. The system delivers video not just to mobile devices, but to any IP-enabled viewing device, including smart TVs.

UUX (ultimate user experience) is the result of the recent merger of TotalMovie, a streaming video service, and OTT, an enterprise software company. UUX has devised a white-label broadband video service it is aiming first at mobile carriers such as Telenor Hungary.

The company’s video delivery software was used as an element in the Mediaroom-based system implemented by Telefonic in both Spain and Brazil (those systems were integrated by Ericsson).

Telenor Hungary is among the first wireless carriers to implement UUX’s end-to-end Internet TV as-a-Service (iTaaS) platform. The turnkey solution from UUX enables Telenor to offer its subscribers the MyTV service which includes live TV, catch-up TV and video-on-demand content, and can be accessed on all Internet connected devices and screens.

The UUX intelligent iTaaS cloud-streaming platform can manage and support millions of daily multiscreen interactions, the vendor said. It has a smartphone-based user interface, enabling discovery, control and consumption of Live and Catch-Up television and Video-on-Demand content across all Internet connected devices and screens.

The company said it can pull any Android-based hybrid set-top box off the shelf to use in the systems it sets up.

UUX has a content library it makes available to its customers. It will also negotiate with local broadcasters for rebroadcast rights, said Lou Schwartz, CEO of UUX, as it did for Telenor Hungary.

Telenor Hungary’s service will start with 14 channels covering news, children, sports and general interest programming, with more promised to follow.

Schwartz said UUX set up Telenor in 90 days. “We’ve built a best-in-class solution which offers seamless multi-screen experiences and does it without requiring capex investment. I’m very excited that Telenor Hungary’s subscribers are the first in Europe to benefit from our iTaaS platform and really looking forward to MyTV entertaining Telenor customers throughout Hungary.”

Telenor Hungary claims 3.5 million customers, giving it a market share of 30 percent in the Hungarian market.
