Faced with increased competition from the likes of Netflix and Telus, as well as a mandated move to unbundling, Shaw Communications president Peter Bissonette has postponed his retirement.
Bissonette will stay onboard until 2015 and has also assumed responsibility for Shaw’s regulatory and government affairs activities. Under the re-organization, Shaw said Bissonette also would provide support and leadership for its “social responsibilities’ activities as well.
Jay Mehr, executive vice president and chief operating officer, has assumed a newly created role following more than 17 years of direct operating experience at Shaw in a number of regional and central roles. Mehr is now accountable for Shaw's operating and customer facing elements—including cable, satellite, business operations —while retaining responsibility for IT, engineering, supply chain and customer experience.
Calgary-based Shaw Communications faces increased competition from Netflix and Telus in its Western Canada footprint. Shaw’s new management structure was put in place as the CRTC, which manages the TV industry in Canada, is looking at mandating cable unbundling. Shaw has dabbled with breaking apart its bundles to give its customers more choices.
Steve Wilson, executive vice president corporate development and chief financial officer, has expanded his current responsibilities to include financial, legal, corporate development and ventures activities as well as strategic planning for Shaw.
Paul Robertson, executive vice president and president, Shaw Media, is now responsible for Shaw's broadcasting, media and TV Everywhere activities.
Jim Little, chief marketing officer, is in charge of Shaw's marketing, brand experience, community TV, Corporate and employee communications activities.
Mark Porter, senior vice president, human resources, is responsible for all activities related to employees and human resources, including employee relations and engagement, training and development, total rewards, recruitment and talent management.

Brad Shaw took over the CEO reins from his brother, Jim, three years ago.
