Cox Communications announced that Kristine Faulkner, who has played a key role in the company’s’ commercial services efforts, will lead the cable operator’s home security and home automation division.
As the new vice president and general manager of Home Security and Smart Home, Faulkner will oversee all related operational strategies, including marketing, sales and customer experience.
After piloting its home automation and home security service last year in Arizona, Cox has launched it in California, Connecticut, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Virginia. In her new role, Faulkner is tasked coordinating rollouts to additional markets and defining the roadmap of advanced services to scale the Smart Home portfolio.
"The majority of people consider home and family their most precious assets," said Faulkner. "There is tremendous opportunity to utilize Cox's existing broadband technology to help connect these customers to what they value most."
Despite competition from entrenched providers, such as ADT, home automation and security services are becoming a big business for cable operators. In addition to Cox, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Verizon and AT&T have all deployed home security, or home automation, services in varying degrees.
Like Time Warner Cable and Comcast, Cox is using iControl for its software, as well as the same SMC Networks touchscreen that Comcast is currently using.
"Kristine has consistently driven aggressive growth via new product development and execution, helping Cox Business move from $100 million to more than $1 billion in annual revenue," said Jill Campbell, executive vice president and chief operating officer. "Most recently, she served as vice president of new growth and development where she helped manage several new products move through idea, trial, pilot and launch phases. Kristine has the experience and the passion to nurture new businesses for significant future growth."
In her more than 13 years at Cox, Faulkner helped lead Cox Business to recognition as a pioneer among peers: the first multiple system cable operator to be honored by J.D. Power and Associates as a top provider among businesses and the first to be ranked among the top tier Ethernet providers by Vertical Systems Group.
While serving as a new growth and development executive, she oversaw the launch of PayLeap, the small business payment solution, and myflare, a cloud-based personal media management service, among other initiatives.
Cox Business, which has over 300,000 customers, has previously said it’s on track to reach $2 billion in commercial services revenue by 2016.
