After offering VOD content on its TWC TV app for iPads in December, Time Warner Cable has upgraded its Web portal to do the same on Macs and PCs.

With the upgrade to, Time Warner Cable is now serving up 4,000 VOD titles to subscribers. The movies and shows come in both SD and HD formats from 91 providers. Users have access to the VOD programming associated with their subscription packages. Other cable operators, such as Cablevision, also offer subscribers access to their VOD libraries across multiple screens.

The site requires Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher for Windows. Firefox 4, Safari 5 or Chrome 24 is required for Windows or Macintosh devices. The Microsoft Silverlight plug-in (version 5.0 or higher) is also required.

Trick-play features, including fast-forward, rewind and pause, were also enabled, although fast-forward could be turned off in some cases where programmers require it in order to keep viewers from skipping over ads.

Users of the Web portal can browse videos by TV shows, movies, kids and network categories and search the on-demand library by title with full color box art.

Among cable operators, Time Warner Cable was first out of the gates last year with an iPad app that featured live streams into subscribers’ homes over a separate IP network.

Time Warner Cable blogger Jeff Simmermon has previously written that VOD content would be available on Android devices, through its TWC TV app, in the first quarter of this year.
