Cablevision is staying on top of its Wi-Fi game with yesterday’s release of a new search app for iOS devices and the debut of a new animated ad campaign that features “HotSpot” the dog.
The new app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices helps Cablevision subscribers find the closest Optimum WiFi hotspot. The new app, which is now available as a free download in the Apple App Store, enables users to carry out quick, advanced and "near me" searches for indoor and outdoor hotspots – whether or not their iOS device is connected to the Web.
Available to all of Cablevision’s data subscribers at no extra charge, Optimum WiFi delivers wireless Internet access at speeds of up to 15 Mbps downstream and 4 Mbps upstream. Cablevision said its customers use Optimum WiFi more than a million times every day to connect to the Internet.
Cablevision was an early pioneer on the Wi-Fi front and now has more than 35,000 indoor and outdoor hotspots.
As for HotSpot, the ad campaign features the dog educating his owner on the benefits of using Optimum WiFi.
“Optimum WiFi is an important extension of our broadband service, and we want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to find and use this free access when away from their wired home or business locations,” said Timothy Farrell, Cablevision’s vice president of wireless development. “Our new app will help guide customers to the nearest Optimum WiFi hotspot, just like their own personal version of HotSpot the dog, who helps his owner Ben stay connected through Optimum WiFi.”
