After winning a contract with Comcast, Elemental Technologies is on a bit of a roll, announcing two new customers, both in Europe. QVC and Deltatre are using Elemental's transcoding and video processing systems.

Deltatre is using the Akamai delivery network and Elemental equipment to support delivery to a wider variety of IP devices, enabling Deltatre to expand its coverage of the Rugby World Cup, which begins on Sept. 9.

Specifically, Deltatre is using the Elemental Server to provide near-real-time turnaround of match highlights for the official event website and mobile applications. Adaptive bit rate game clips are delivered via the Akamai HD Network to Deltatre's Diva video player using Microsoft Smooth Streaming for Silverlight.

Chris Catling, head of operations at Deltatre Media, said Elemental "integrated into the workflow between our editing operations and publishing via the Deltatre CMS. In total, 22 outputs are delivered to different locations feeding seven different platforms. The pure speed at which we can do the encoding is faster than real time. This enables us to provide a superior service to our client, as well as a top-quality experience for viewers."

Separately, QVC Italy (QVC Italia) and QVC in the U.K. are using Elemental Live to provide encoding for adaptive bit rate streaming of live television broadcasts to online platforms.

QVC broadcast operators are using the system to instantly create individual product clips from live broadcast for Web delivery. This extends the life cycle of product promotions and provides a seamless home shopping experience for customers regardless of viewing platform, Elemental said.

"QVC U.K. launched a new iPhone app early in 2011. Customer appetite for the app exceeded all expectations, and the next phase of development will deliver live streaming to the app," said Edward Hailstone of QVC U.K. "Streaming technologies are constantly evolving, and we wanted a flexible and extensible solution. Elemental Live was chosen as it will allow us to deliver multiple channels to multiple devices in a robust and cost-effective manner."
