According to Comcast, the nation's largest cable operator, satellite giant DirecTV is deceiving consumers with its ads for NFL Sunday Ticket.

Comcast filed a lawsuit against DirecTV this week in an Illinois federal court accusing DirecTV of deceptive advertising, unfair competition and consumer fraud. Comcast is also seeking unspecified cash damages for lost profit.

In the satellite op's ads, DirecTV claims that its NFL Sunday Ticket package is currently available for "free" or at "no extra charge, " but what DirecTV doesn't mention: the two-year minimum contract, second year charges and early cancellation penalty, according to the lawsuit.

The cable op is asking for a court order to block DirecTV's print, radio and Internet ads, and it's asking DirecTV to retract and correct its claims.

"We believe that Comcast's complaint is completely without merit and plan to defend ourselves vigorously," DirecTV said in a statement.
