The SCTE has promoted three of its staff technology experts, naming all three senior directors – new titles at the organization.

Derek DiGiacomo was named senior director of information systems and energy management programs. One of his responsibilities will be managing SCTE's Smart Energy Management Initiative (SEMI). DiGiacomo has been with the organization for 11 years, focusing on information technology and systems. He has been running the SEMI program since it was founded in 2010.

Steve Harris is now senior director of advanced network technologies, with increased business development and content creation responsibility with the SCTE Professional Development program. Harris has been with the SCTE since last year; he joined from Comcast University.

Tom Russell was promoted to senior director of standards, with an increased role in the creation of new standards activity in the United States and internationally. Russell has been the SCTE's director of standards since 2003.

At the same time, industry veterans Steve Hughey and George Wright have been retained as subject matter consultants in the areas of equipment standards and energy management, and network operations and engineering, respectively.

Hughey, who will work with SCTE's Sustainability Management Subcommittee (SMS) on the creation of energy management standards, has extensive experience developing standards and specifications during his 30-year career in product development, systems engineering and product management. Wright, who will provide needed expertise in network operations and engineering, is a four-decade veteran who has held cable positions in the field, technical training and system management.

"The emergence of new cable services and our evolving partnerships with NCTA and CableLabs are creating new opportunities for current staff, as well as for outside experts in specific, critical areas," said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE. "By identifying and grooming SCTE team members like Derek DiGiacomo, Steve Harris, Tom Russell and others for added roles, we can accelerate our ability to make material change at every level of cable engineering and operations."

In conjunction with the promotions, SCTE also announced additional steps to drive learning and development within its ranks, including: a commitment for two staff members to attend the SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership program at Dartmouth College in 2012; funding for employment-related continuing education, including tuition reimbursement for a current Ph.D. student; and the launch this summer of a co-op/internship program that is designed to develop new engineering and operations talent for the industry.
