The Metro Ethernet Forum recently announced the winners of its MEF Carrier Service Providers Awards for North America, and Cablevision's Optimum Lightpath took first in the Best Marketing Award category.

MEF said this year's service provider awards, with revised categories designed to reflect the increasing evolution of the Ethernet Services market, attracted a record number of entries from service providers that were judged by panels of industry analysts.

"The record number of entries received for both the EMEA and North America Service Provider awards this year is a further endorsement of both the maturity and acceptance of carrier Ethernet services for a wide range of mission-critical business applications," said MEF President Nan Chen.

Optimum Lightpath beat out AT&T and Verizon for its award.

The Best Business Ethernet Service Award finalists were AT&T, Optimum Lightpath, Verizon and XO Communications, with AT&T named as the winner.

AT&T, Cox, Verizon and XO Communications were named as finalists for the Best Wholesale Ethernet Service Award, with Verizon announced as the winner.
