Verizon Wireless announced the availability of Apple's iPad. The carrier will offer three bundles, all featuring an iPad Wi-Fi model and a Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot.
Customers can choose from a 16 GB iPad with Wi-Fi and a MiFi 2200 ($629.99), a 32 GB iPad with Wi-Fi and MiFi ($729.99), or a 64 GB iPad with Wi-Fi and MiFi ($829.99).
The carrier is offering a monthly access plan to customers who purchase an iPad with a MiFi beginning at 1 GB of data per month for $20. In addition, Verizon Wireless will also offer all three iPad Wi-Fi models on a standalone basis.
Because the iPad was built with a 3G radio that only supports GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless users will need the MiFi to connect to the carrier's CDMA network.
And iPad customers can use the Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot to connect to Verizon Wireless' 3G network. The MiFi 2200 is small enough to fit in a pocket and allows customers to create a personal Wi-Fi cloud capable of sharing connectivity with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
AT&T is the only U.S. carrier that's compatible with the "3G" version of the iPad, which allows for cellular data access.
