NDS has opened the doors on a new office in Atlanta, which is also the headquarters for one of its biggest North American cable operator customers.

With the new office in Atlanta, NDS, which is headquartered in the United Kingdom, will be able to work in close contact with Cox Communications. Earlier year, Cox announced the debut of its tru2way-based Trio guide, which NDS' professional services team helped Cox develop.

Jesper Knutsson, NDS' North America vice president and general manager, said the Atlanta office has opened with 20 employees and will eventually add 10 more employees to better serve the company's North American efforts.

While NDS has long offered a conditional access technology, which Cablevision uses, and is currently developing a home gateway, its professional services effort has gained traction with North American cable operators.

After signing an initial agreement in 2009, Cox and NDS also signed an agreement in May that extended their professional services and integration contract through 2012.

In June, Comcast announced it would use NDS' Professional Services Group as the prime integrator for its tru2way software efforts.

With the addition of the Atlanta office, NDS has more than 350 employees focused solely on U.S. professional services that are supported by a global R&D staff of more than 2,500.
