Alcatel-Lucent performed what it said was the first live mobile broadcast on an LTE network.

Alcatel-Lucent provided the LTE (Long Term Evolution) mobile transmission technology, while the images were processed by Teracue with H.264 encoders and decoders.

Each sailing boat was equipped with a camera; the video was fed into a battery-powered Teracue system, which encoded in real time and forwarded the video to be broadcasted over LTE as an IP stream, A-L explained.

An LTE radio cell was used to transmit the video signal to a mobile television studio, where the H.264 IPTV signal was decoded by a Teracue decoder. The decoder SDI output signal was delivered to the studio director and mixing desk for live broadcast cutting, graphics and audio overlays.
