Synacor, which builds and maintains Web portals for Internet service providers, said today that Tim Peterman is the company’s new chief operating officer.

Prior to Synacor, Peterman was senior vice president of interactive media for Scripps Networks Interactive. He also previously held positions at IAC, Sinclair Communications and the Tribune Co.

“With the continued growth of our business into new market segments and geographic areas, the coordination of support across all operational departments is taking on greater levels of importance,” said Ron Frankel, president and CEO of Synacor. “Tim Peterman has the executive skills, the industry knowledge and the track record of success that will maximize the value of Synacor’s solutions for our customers and our partners.”

During his six years with Scripps, which owns cable networks such as HGTV and Food Network, Peterman helped guide the company’s expanding presence into interactive media, which included his rolein the acquisition and operations of Shopzilla.

Mediacom Communications and Bresnan Communications used Synacor’s platform to re-launch their respective Web portals earlier this year.
