Mobile television service MobiTV said today that its subscribership has now reached more than five million.

The service is available to customers of AT&T, Sprint Nextel and Alltel. More than one million subscribers signed up in the past five months, officials said.

MobiTV recently began expanding into vertical markets with the Mobi4Biz service, while other vertical services for children and sports fans are likely in the first half of 2009. The company is also upgrading its video technology.

The service began in 1999. Investors include Adobe Systems, Hearst Corp. and various venture capital firms.
