Videotron pushed its tally of subscribers to 1,691,500 in its third quarter. The total includes 876,700 customers of illico Digital TV.

The subscriber total was up 31,000 in the quarter and 53,000 on a year-to-date basis. The company added 109,000 to illico subscriber list over the course of the year.

Videotron said it went over the million-customer mark for its data services. The company added 55,000 VoIP customers in the quarter for a new total of 797,900.

The company, also a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) through an agreement with Rogers Wireless, now has 58,600 mobile voice customers.

In October, Videotron and Quebecor Media confirmed their intention to invest between $800 million and $1 billion over the next four years to develop their own Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) network.\

The privately-held company does not publish financial numbers.

"Our business strategy, based on always delivering the best possible customer experience and advantageously priced service bundles, continues to pay off," said Robert Depatie, president and chief executive officer of Videotron. "The growth logged in the last quarter again confirms our leadership position in Canada's telecommunications industry and is a strong vote of confidence from our customers."
