Arris just received a major follow-on contract from Comcast to supply DOCSIS 3.0 C4 cable modem termination system (CMTS) chasses.

Arris has been supplying Comcast with DOCSIS 2.0 CMTS and E-MTAs, and last year began to sell QAMs to the cable giant. Arris said Comcast’s installed base of C4s can be upgraded to 3.0 with a “graceful enhancement process.” Comcast has approximately 20 percent of its footprint activated with Arris CMTS gear.

DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS technology can deliver Internet connection speeds of up to 160 Mbps using channel-bonding technology. Arris’ C4 provides extended address management is also provided.

Arris said the C4 will provide greater flexibility in provisioning upstream and downstream capacity independently, providing the ability to tune each configuration to the traffic patterns of the network.

Additionally, Arris announced that it has concluded a series of interoperability test activities with advertising technology companies to help accelerate progress surrounding the SCTE 130 (DVS 629) interfaces, as well as to define the cable industry's addressable ad-insertion standard and solutions.

The companies that Arris has completed interoperability testing and agreements with are Atlas, Invidi and RGB Networks. Demonstrations of their combined abilities are on display at The Cable Show ‘08 in New Orleans.

Also at Arris’ booth will be its Unified Video Platform, DOCSIS 3.0 voice and data solutions, Assurance Portfolio, access and transport solutions, and fixed/mobile convergence and business services solutions. Arris will also conduct live WorkAssure and ServAssure workforce and network management demonstrations that optimize bandwidth, workforce and customer management.

Also on the menu: Wideband voice and data delivery via the DOCSIS 3.0-qualified C4 CMTS and Wideband Voice and Data Modem suite, spectrum analyzer and intelligent channel optimizer, wireless E-MTAs and cable modems and E-1 and T-1 modems.
