Motorola Inc. has shipped its one-millionth Internet Protocol (IP) set-top, the VIP1510.
The set-top is part of a series of STBs that support a hard drive for DVR functionality and personal video storage, and that have the ability to process MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/AVC in standard definition and HD.
In February, Motorola acquired Kreatel Communications, a developer of IP-based digital set-tops that provided IPTV set-top software and hardware solutions to European telecoms and ISPs.
Motorola also provides end-to-end solutions for IPTV deployment. Its platform includes network infrastructure, video headend and transport, MPEG-4 encoding and connected home devices.
Motorola Connected Home Solutions, which shipped its first IP set-top in May 2001, also shipped its 50-millionth digital cable set-top in October.
