Ethernet is the single most common transport method for IP-based traffic. As the cable industry deals with more and more IP applications, including Internet video and a variety of business services, they are finding themselves depending more on Ethernet networking.
SA's Prisma IP E500, E100, M and C Series platforms were certified by Iometrix, the MEF authorized lab, as meeting the carrier-class standard for Ethernet Private Line (EPL), Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) and Ethernet LAN (E-LAN) services.
From SA's point-of-view, MEF certification means being able to target its products not only to cable companies, but to any communications service provider that wants to offer Ethernet services.
"The MEF qualification of our Prisma IP Platform is another confirmation of Scientific Atlanta's commitment to Ethernet-based services, including voice, video and high-speed data," said Mark Palazzo, vice president and general manager, Access Networks, Scientific Atlanta, a Cisco company. "The growth of the Carrier Ethernet market presents new opportunities, and this certification is just one more reason our customers can have increased confidence in our ability to meet their service needs."
