Insight Communications said its commercial services arm, InsightBusiness, has boosted speeds to 15 Mbps down and 1.5 Mbps upstream for its high-end "Broadband Enterprise" tier, which is targeted to large "enterprise" customers.

In the downstream, that represents a two-to-one advantage over the fastest DSL packages in its service areas, Insight claimed.

Insight is rolling out the faster tier throughout November. The MSO's "BusinessBroadband" packages run $49.95 per month to $239.95 per month, depending on level of service.

InsightBusiness' introductory "Business Broadband" tier offers 2 Mbps down/384 kbps up, with up to 10 e-mail accounts. Its "Pro" tier offers 4 Mbps/384 kbps, while its "Business Broadband Plus" provides speeds of 6 Mbps down/512 kbps up.

InsightBusiness' "Premier" tier has pushed the speed needle to 10 Mbps/1 Mbps.

All of those tiers target small-to-medium sized and enterprise-level businesses in 13 of Insight's markets. Insight officially launched its business service effort in January.

"We have found that other communications providers are not focused on the needs of small- and medium-sized businesses," said Insight VP of Commercial Services Scot Burris, in reference to the reasons behind the new, faster tiers.

InsightBusiness has signed on more than 22,000 customers so far.
